"The Witch's Familiar" is the 2nd Doctor Who episode from Series 9, aired on September 26, 2015, and serves as the second part of a two-part story following "The Magician's Apprentice." Written by Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie MacDonald, it continues the Twelfth Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) confrontation with Davros, the creator of the Daleks, and explores themes of mercy, revenge, and redemption.
The episode begins with the Doctor trapped on Skaro, the Dalek home planet, after Missy (Michelle Gomez) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) seemingly perish in the previous episode. However, it’s revealed that Missy and Clara survived by using Dalek teleportation technology. They find themselves outside the Dalek city, where Missy devises a plan to infiltrate it by encasing Clara inside a Dalek shell, effectively disguising her as one of the enemy. This setup creates tension and humor as Clara struggles to communicate through the Dalek’s distorted voice, which translates her words into hostile phrases.
Meanwhile, the Doctor faces Davros (Julian Bleach) in a deeply emotional exchange. Davros, frail and dying, manipulates the Doctor by appealing to his compassion, asking him to admit that genocide might be justified under certain circumstances. The Doctor, aware of Davros’ trap, resists but is drawn into a philosophical debate about their shared history. Davros reveals a scheme to use the Doctor’s regeneration energy to empower the Daleks, believing it will make them invincible. The Doctor, however, suspects a deeper motive.
Outside, Missy and the Dalek-disguised Clara encounter resistance from the Daleks, leading to chaotic and darkly comedic moments as Missy revels in the mayhem. Their journey back to the Doctor intersects with the decaying Dalek sewers—old, discarded Daleks turned into a sentient sludge—which becomes a pivotal element in the climax.
The Doctor ultimately outsmarts Davros, using the sewer Daleks to rebel against their creators. He channels his regeneration energy not to enhance the Daleks but to trigger the sludge to destroy the city from within. This act of cunning preserves his moral stance against genocide while thwarting Davros’ plan. In a poignant twist, the Doctor spares Davros, reflecting on a memory of leaving him as a child on a battlefield—an event that shaped Davros’ hatred. This mercy underscores the Doctor’s growth and sets up a time-travel resolution where he saves young Davros, planting the seed of compassion.
Missy escapes, leaving her fate ambiguous, while the Doctor and Clara flee in the TARDIS. The episode blends intense character drama with Moffat’s signature timey-wimey plotting, delivering a satisfying conclusion that examines the Doctor’s identity as a figure of hope amidst darkness.

End of description changed entirely from previous videos, it made the description WAY too long, I was hitting my character limits for the describing the show in great detail above (no I'm not using "AI" to write those descriptions, I literally type them out by hand...
Doctor Who Series 8 is basically finished and there's no lack of my enjoyment watching (besides how long editing takes me and the fact I'm often up until 3am or later to finish editing and uploading because I'm a lazy arse who can't edit the video throughout the week instead because I apparently don't have my own life apparently or I just can't manage time well and get distracted easily)
Too much complaining at the end of the description? Good thing no one reads descriptions!
...Right?
